Astin has been assigned a great host family...Nasson Nkausu, his wife and 9 children. (plus 40 grand children) The village is Kakueo, located in Chongwe. The average daily temp. is 80 degrees and night drops below 50. Early to bed - 7:30pm and early to rise - 6:00am... And yes he is roughing it....using a pit latrine and a bucket bath! And biking 15 kilometers a day. He wants you to know that a beer cost 5000 kwacha's, chips/fries = 3000 kwacha's (3500 kwacha's = $1.00 US dollars) Unleaded gas is 10,000 kwacha's per gallon...He can send a texted message to you for 150 kwacha's.
Monday they will be doing their first fish harvest, which means he will be draining the pond and diving in to retreive the fish....swimming in mud, is more like it!
